Crew Carolina LLC, the managing company for the Boathouse Restaurants in Charleston, SC and Asheville NC announces it is terminating a lease agreement to open a new Boathouse on the Falls inside the Falls Place building at 531 South Main Street.
“This is all about the economy, the economy of the nation, the region and the operational economy of Crew Carolina,” according to Batt Humphreys, communications director for Crew Carolina. “We still have interest and faith in the Greenville market, but we’re in the early month of the second quarter of ’08, this is the quarter that will define whether the economy is in a de facto recession, and we are in a fortunate place with Falls Place, where we can effect what the military calls a ’stand down‚ to release our option on the space and wait a few months to see which way the economy blows.”
Crew Carolina originally planned to open the Boathouse on the Falls by late spring of ’08. The concept was to bring the popular Lowcountry restaurant to the Upstate with a 162 seat indoor facility and open terrace for an additional 72 patrons. Crew operates three other Boathouse restaurants, as well as Carolina’s in Charleston, a catering operation that manages events and food service for the Gibbes Museum of Art and Magnolia Plantation in Charleston and a retail food product line called Simply Southern Products.
