Our restaurant at Breach Inlet
opened in 1997. Renovations and additions to the structure began in
1996 with a team of talented specialists, including master craftsman,
boat builders and artists. The restaurant's interior and exterior were
designed to reflect an understated, low country island dwelling,
complete with authentic local nautical features. Many of these nautical
items formerly resided on handmade wooden boats that once graced our
local waters.
"Local" has been our commitment since 1997,
beginning not just with our unique structure, but also with our menu.
Our original motto "Simply Fresh Seafood" has remained our pledge of
excellence to you for 15 years. We continue to use only the freshest and
highest quality seafood and other food products. Our suppliers are
proudly portrayed in the photographs and articles seen as you enter our
front door. A list of their web sites is contained on our vendors
section .
You will see that "local" for us is usually a little
past our dock for "Toby's Clams, or 12 miles away for the freshest
produce in the area. We responsibly pluck and gather from the soil and
sea daily.
In 1997 we introduced to the low country a new menu
concept, giving you, our guests, the opportunity to choose from up to
one-half dozen types of the freshest fish available, and an equal number
of preparations. We also gave our guests the ability to choose sides
from six choices. Through the years little has changed with our menu.
That is not by accident, to the contrary, we strive to be “free of
gimmicks”, which in the end is what good Southern cooking is all about,
straight forward, devoid of embellishment. In our cookbook, “The
Boathouse, Tales and Recipes from a Southern Kitchen it is stated, “All
that could be plucked, pinched, pulled, caught in a net, on a line or
raked up from the pluff mud would find itself in a pot. Everything was
fresh, or nearly so, because, prior to refrigeration everything had to
be prepared shortly after it was acquired…until the advent of the “ice
box” in the late 1800’s all food consisted of fresh regional
ingredients, or as it is called today “slow food”. At the
Boathouse one thing is for certain, “slow local food” or as we like to
say “Simply Fresh Seafood”, all of the highest quality has been our
commitment since 1997. . We look forward to serving you. “The Staff “ The Boathouse at Breach Inlet
