About Our Vendors
Sweetbay Produce & Nursery - Co-owner and Grower, George B. Nelson, Jr., has a passion for horticulture, and that is why everything he grows is of the very best flavor and nutritional value. Nelson has owned a farm in Huger, SC, since 1990. Sweetbay Produce & Nursery uses the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT). The NFT hydroponic method enables plants to be grown freely within a sloped gutter system having no soil medium. Learn more about George and his farm at www.sweetbayproduce.com
Abundant Seafood - Owner and Operator, Mark Marhefka has been fishing for over 32 years. He is based locally out of Shem Creek and fishes 50-60 miles off the coasts of North and South Carolina, and Georgia. Mark is a big supporter of keeping fresh, sustainably caught local seafood available to our future generations. While Abundant Seafood sells directly to restaurants such as The Boathouse, he operates a Community Supported Fishery Program (CSF), which gets fresh fish from the boat directly into the hands of the home cook. Check out Mark and Abundant Seafood at www.facebook.com/people/Abundant-Seafood/1431138542 Miss Judy Too - Captain Tommy Edwards has been shrimping for 37 years and named the 70ft Miss Judy Too his third boat after his wife. He is a first generation shrimper from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina who was brought into the business by his friends. Local Clams - Tobias Seafood has been in business locally for 20 years, serving many of Charleston’s best restaurants. Clamming is nothing but pure sustainability. From tiny seed clams, no bigger than a kernel of corn, Toby places the seed clams in a nursery in order for them to grow. From here, they stay for about 6 months, until they are ready to be moved to the grow-out beds for another 8 months. These grow-out beds, located near the marshes, can only be seen at low tide. In the thick muddy banks, known to locals as “pluff mud’, Toby digs for the clams. Toby can be scene from our deck headed to harvest the clams for nightly service. Hughey Aquafarm - Travis Hughey is the co-founder of F.A.S.T. and honored to be the husband of Lori and the proud father of our three children T.J., Allie and Malorie. Check in here for my take on things as they progress on our mission to Kenya, Africa and other places in the world. Travis spends his time working with F.A.S.T and developing technologies to aid and assist the poor of America and other countries by equipping, training and meet both physical and emotional needs with Christian integrity and principles. www.fastonline.org
